20 Minutes
Salsa Sauce is a popular Mexican dip and tastes much better homemade than purchased salsa. With tomatoes, onions and of course peppers, a fresh, cold salsa sauce tastes great with nachos and many grilled dishes. A smoky aroma gives the spicy Mexican dip a special kick.
In this Salsa recipe, we show you how to make a smoky and spicy Salsa yourself.

Salsa recipe – Making smoky salsa yourself
We already said it in our Aioli recipe, the weekend was all about dips, sauces and finger foods. Because in addition to the aioli and the delicious, simple guacamole, we also prepared a spicy and smoky salsa together with our kitchen buddy Prithvi.
The special feature of this salsa recipe compared to the traditional sauces is that we roasted the ingredients in the oven at high heat and then processed them further. This way we create a very special aroma, which fits perfectly to a summer barbecue evening.

Ingredients for the Smoked Salsa Sauce
Preparation of the Salsa
1. First peel and quarter the onion and also cut the pepperoni into smaller pieces. Place them on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil together with the tomatoes and garlic cloves. Then roast the vegetables in the oven at maximum temperature and top heat on the top shelf.
Spread the ingredients on the baking tray
2. In between turn the vegetables so that they are roasted on all sides and your salsa later gets a smoky aroma. It may become a little black in some places (yes, I know. Acrylamide sends its regards). As soon as you have reached the desired degree of roasting, take the vegetables out of the oven and let them cool down a little.

3. Remove the peel from the garlic and the coarsest black parts from the vegetables and put everything together with a small handful of chopped coriander in a large bowl. Now puree everything with a blender and add some salt, pepper and lemon juice to taste your smoked salsa sauce.
Smoked Salsa with Nachos
Homemade Salsa – Our Conclusion
The flavor of this homemade salsa sauce is something special and tastes great with nachos and also on wraps and tacos. Through the ghost chili, which we have used our salsa but has quite a kick. Who does not like it so hot, but can also simply take a milder variety. In any case, a great alternative to not have to buy salsa.
